We don’t build campaigns to win awards and we damn sure aren’t trying to ‘build our books’. We are results-driven marketers, inspired copywriters and stylish designers all grappling with judgmental parents and being perfectionists in an imperfect world.
Spencer GellmanChief Executive Officer
A Mad Man born in the wrong era, Spencer has been a student of the marketing/advertising world since he was six years old, claiming to be the only adolescent to critique the art direction of kids’ cereal commercials. After receiving a degree he’ll never need from Cornell University, Spencer began his career in marketing and communications at public relations firm Rubenstein Associates, where he assisted in brand management for a host of clients, including The New York Yankees, Van Wagner, and The New York Post. In September of 2006, around the same time Facebook went from dorm room project to worldwide phenomena, he left Rubenstein and joined boutique new media marketing agency, Noise, where he conceived and managed social media campaigns for a series of brands including CBS, Chase, Yahoo!, Six Flags and Intel. In May of 2009, Spencer started Jane Creative, an online marketing and creative services agency named after his mother. The company has thrived since its inception, running campaigns for a series of clients including Sam Edelman, ADAM, INHABIT and the CFDA. Spencer currently resides in Chelsea and insists on eating Chinese food every Sunday night.
Karen MessingCreative Director
Karen lives by a simple motto: if you can’t save the world, the least you can do is make it softer on the eyes. A native New Yorker raised by Argentine parents, Karen graduated Cornell University in 2004 and began her career working in the marketing and public relations department of fashion and lifestyle brand, Natori. Enthralled by the creative side of the industry, Karen left Natori and enrolled at Parsons School of Design, where she received a post-graduate degree in graphic design. In the years that followed, Karen operated as a freelance graphic designer producing print, web and identity work for restaurants, clothing labels, vineyards and her sister’s budding frozen yogurt company until 2008, when she was given a graphic design fellowship by the Clinton Foundation. Karen joined Jane Creative in August of 2009, and has since been the lead designer on a series of website, identity and new media application projects. She presently lives on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and is eagerly awaiting her acceptance into Hogwarts.
